Incoming Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson will host "Kansas Children. Kansas’ Future" community conversations across the state to give Kansas residents the opportunity to answer the question, What is the future we want for our children and what role should education play in supporting that future?

Parents, educators, legislators, school board members, business community members and other interested parties are encouraged to attend. Your feedback will be used to help shape Kansas’ strategic plan for education.

While there are 13 opportunities to be a part of this event, the conversation will come to our area on three separate occasions:
  • Thursday, January 22nd, at 5:00pm at the KASB Headquarters, 420 SW Arrowhead Rd, Topeka
  • Wednesday, February 18th, from 9-11 in Kansas City (location TBA)
  • Wednesday, February 18th, from 1-3pm, Olathe USD 233 Education Center, 14160 Black Bob Rd, Olathe
Student Absences

If your student will have to miss school or needs to leave school early for any reason, please contact the school's office as soon as possible to let them know.
  • High School - 913-845-3042
  • Middle School - 913-845-2627
  • Elementary - 913-845-2290
Each building sets rules concerning excused vs unexcused absences. These rules are published in each school's Student Handbook.

Baby and Senior Pictures for Yearbook

The 2014-15 Yearbook staff would like parents of seniors to know about the opportunity to submit a baby picture (taken when they were younger than 2 years old) as well as a senior portrait of their choosing, to be published in this year's yearbook. Parents can also add a congratulatory message or words of wisdom if they choose.

To take advantage of this opportunity, fill out the linked form and return it to the high school with the $35 fee by April 10. Due to the publication deadline, no pictures can be accepted after April 10, but if you're an early bird, you can get a $5 discount and pay only $30 if your form and payment get to the High School by March 13!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact yearbook sponsor David Walker at dwalker@tong464.org.

Information for Student Athletes

There are a variety of forms and information sheets available to students in grades 7-12 who will be participating in school sports.
  • Student Athlete Packet - 2014-15 academic year. For 7-12 grade students who will be participating in inter-scholastic athletics. Contains the Pre-Participation Physical (PPE), Eligibility Checklist, District Substance Abuse Policy, and KSHSAA Concussion and Head Injury Sign-Off Sheet. The packet must be filled out completely and turned in before the student can attend practice.
  • Student Accident Insurance Q & A
  • Student Accident Insurance Standard Group Plan - this document will help parents understand coverage offered by the insurance policy that covers students during any school-related activity. This is a secondary policy and goes into effect after the family's regular insurance has provided coverage. This policy does not cover KSHSAA activities.
  • KSHSAA Activities Plan - this describes the district's athletic policy policy which covers students injured during practice, travel, and competitions of KSHSAA activities. This plan is a secondary insurance policy and goes into effect after the family's regular insurance has provided coverage. It has a $5,000 deductible.
  • KSHSAA Accident Insurance - an optional plan to be purchased by families of students involved in KSHSAA activities, covers the $5,000 deductible for the KSHSAA Activities Plan. This plan must be purchased and paid for prior to the first day of practice for the sport in which the student is participating. If parents choose not to purchase this additional insurance, any medical bills as a result of a sports-related injury will be subject to a $5,000 deductible and will not be paid by the district's insurance.

The district offers a variety of calendar options for our patrons.
